OPEN TO WORK

Hello,

I’m Stephanie.

I’m a product designer. I like making complicated products easier to understand and use, especially where the details matter.

Beyond the design file.

I take the work the rest of the way and build it.

DESIGNING WITHIN CONSTRAINTS

Redesigned the experience of a 20-year-old core banking platform.

Not every product needs to start from scratch. At Interswitch, the challenge was rethinking how an existing system worked and how people navigated it, while balancing trade-offs and keeping business goals in view.

The hard part was knowing what to change and what to leave alone. I simplified workflows where the existing experience created friction while preserving familiar operations where change wasn't necessary.

The work supported the onboarding of 14 banks and the platform’s expansion into Uganda.

On a different note

I built a record management system for my community.

I wanted to make it easier for members of my alumni community to see what they owed and feel encouraged to pay. Without that visibility, it was harder for members to stay motivated to clear their outstanding dues.

The RMS went live in September, giving members access to their own payment histories.

Since going live in September, 17 members have made payments, with almost ₦200,000 in dues recorded to date, compared to the usual 2-3 members a month.

One more kind of complexity

Good technology still has to explain itself.

Beacon Power Services provides technology that helps electricity utilities and grid operators tackle challenges like power losses and revenue collection. Its website needed to communicate this clearly, which meant rethinking how the business presented itself and organised its content.

My focus was on strategy, information architecture, and content hierarchy, bringing structure to its offerings and creating a clearer path for prospective clients to explore the solutions relevant to them.

Before you go

A few things worth knowing.

  1. Are you open to work, or is this just a very elaborate business card?

I'm open to the right opportunity. A senior product design role on a team where design and engineering build side by side. If that's your team, say hello.

  2. What's your most unpopular design opinion?

Designers talk too much about pixels and not enough about profit. If you want a seat at the business table, learn to speak its language.

  3. What kind of designer are you when things get messy?

I step back, figure out where the mess started, and picture what “sorted” looks like. If there’s more than one way forward, I weigh the options and get a second opinion when I need one.

  4. What's the side project that wouldn't stay a side project?

After building a record management system for my alumni community, other communities started asking for one too. I'm now working on turning it into a product that can serve multiple communities.

  5. Who are you hoping to meet at Moonshot?

People building interesting things, people who think differently from me, and people I might never have crossed paths with otherwise.

One last thing

Fancy a little mess?

Sort the colors. Or don't. You're in charge.
Lift a ball above its rim, carry it to another glass, then release.
